ABOUT KATHLEEN STEIN
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit our web-site! This site is
updated and maintained by my husband, David Stein. As new items are regularly
added, please feel free to stop by and view my most recent work.
I have had an interest in visual art since childhood. Much of my time as a child
was spent sketching with pencils and creating pictures from construction paper
and other items. My childhood entertainment became adult entertainment several
years ago when I decided to pick up a sketch- book again.
After creating “black and white art” for a while, I decided that I wanted to
provide some color to my work. I began to explore watercolor and mixed media and
have enjoyed painting with them. Most recently, I began working with water
mixable oils. I enjoy the textures, control and infinite possibilities that oils
provide.
I am currently enrolled in weekly oil painting classes with Gary Watson of
Waverly, NY. I have also taken an Intensive in Portrait work. Otherwise, I am
self-taught and obtain much information from books, the Internet and fellow
artists. My collegiate background includes degrees from Temple University and
Widener University. I have both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Social Work.
Much of my creative time is spent in my home studio, located outside of Corning,
NY. The subject material for my paintings is often obtained from our travels and
from everyday life. As a lover of nature, I have a strong passion for landscapes
and still life, especially floral still life. I am also employed part time as a
College Lecturer for Elmira College, Elmira NY and teach two Human Service
classes during the fall semester.
Please feel free to write to me, especially if you are a fellow artist. I enjoy
sharing resources and information with others who are actively exploring the
fascinating world of art and expanding their personal creativity.
